Our Story

From the Bronx to Rock Hill — building a home for RC hobbyists in York County.

Boxes of remote control vehicles ranging from cars to drones are stacked along the walls of the SC2NY RC Shop in Rock Hill.

With products ranging from $10 to $1,500, the new remote control hobby shop aims to become a hub for enthusiasts of all ages.

Located at 946 Charlotte Avenue, formerly the location of Woody’s Music, SC2NY RC Shop opened in August.

The owner, Thomas Nunez, hadn’t initially planned on opening a brick and mortar shop.

When Nunez established his company in December 2024, he intended to be an exclusively online retailer. But when his supplier told him they wouldn’t supply online stores, Nunez rushed to find a physical location.

Though his business turned out differently than he expected, support from the community has boosted SC2NY right out of the gate.

“We got a lot of people in the door,” Nunez said of a recent event. “Man, it was so many people that came out. I had one track at that time… We were just having fun, just whipping around.”

Nunez is a native of the Bronx in New York City, and the shop’s name is a nod to the city he grew up in and the state he now calls home.

He said his remote control business is all about fostering community. Situated near downtown Rock Hill, Nunez imagines the shop as a place for hobbyists to come together.

SC2NY features two racetracks, lapper technology to record race times, and a large variety of parts and vehicles.

“Everybody comes in through that door and thanks me for opening this place,” Nunez said.

Some of his customers have suggested starting a Facebook group for remote control enthusiasts in the York County area. Feedback like that, Nunez said, just gives him more inspiration to keep going with his business.

Opening SC2NY is a dream come true for Nunez, whose love for remote control vehicles goes back to his childhood when he first heard the puttering roar of a gas-powered remote control vehicle.

Ever since, he’s been passionate about remote control vehicles — an enthusiasm that drives his vision for the store.

Although SC2NY is still in its infancy, Nunez hopes his customers will discover the same joy he found in his youth.

“There’s something for everybody. Fun has no age. That’s my slogan. Fun really does not have an age. If you want to have fun, I can find you something to have fun with.”
